Seniors upstage juniors on Tour

NAMIBIA’s young talented Beach Volleyball players lost out to their senior rivals at last Saturday on the Kia Namibia National Beach Volleyball Tour.
In both the men and women’s categories Namibia’s next generation of volleyball stars seriously challenged the more experienced senior teams, but were not able to claim top spot.
In the men’s category of the tournament sponsored by Maerua SuperSpar, Namibia’s U21 national team of Tin Hlupic and Gerard Fischer was not able to overcome Achim Lück and Peter Brinkmann and had to settle for second position.
With this consistent performance and the tournament win, Lück was also able to further extend his lead on the National Tour rankings, and now has a seven-point lead over Hlupic and Fischer who are tied at 110 points each.
In the women’s competition young Maike Brandt got her best tournament result to date on the Kia National Tour, finishing second with her new partner Lientjie Titus.
Simone von Wietersheim and Anita Kinder where the team to beat on the day and the duo managed to repeat their victory, winning their second tournament in a row.
Von Wietersheim and Kinder were also able to extend their lead on the National Tour Rankings to a comfortable 33 points, tied at 110 points each, with their closest rivals Wiebke Hoeritzauer and Antje Kesselmann tied at 77 points each.
Florian Hentzen and Hago Rethemeyer won the Youth/Social category ahead of Björn Baas and Arne Putensen who finished second, while Richard Botha and Marco Jauss came third.
The 4-a-side category was won by Farmers Attack ahead of Meatco Lovers and Meatco Paradise.
The next Kia Namibia National Beach Volleyball Tour event will be another tournament sponsored by Maerua Superspar on 10 August at the DTS Beach Volleyball Arena in Windhoek.
