Katima Mulilo power outage

ELECTRICITY supply to Katima Mulilo has been restored after strong winds felled a wooden power pylon just across the Zambian border over the weekend.

The town was without electricity until about 19h00 on Monday.

The town's electricity supply comes via a 66-kilovolt line which

runs from Livingstone, near Victoria Falls, through western Zambia

and over the border to Namibia.

 

Acting NamPower spokesperson Werner Jetschko said yesterday that

the problem had been solved following a joint operation with Nored,

sole supplier and distributor of electricity to the Caprivi region

Nored Regional Officer Bainga Mainza told The Namibian that the

destruction of the powerline was detected about three kilometres

from Katima Mulilo, in Zambian territory, but that supply was back

to normal now.

 

Because the power lines are carried by wooden structures,

Jetschko explained, they are highly susceptible to destructive

weather.
