Kavango warned - Don't rock the crocs

RUNDU - The Namibian Police Water Unit here has cautioned residents, especially those living along its banks, to be careful when visiting the Kavango River, as its level is rising.

The unit's commander, Warrant Officer Pau Sitentu, said the rising

water level meant people should be on alert, particularly for

crocodiles.

Sitentu said that there had been three crocodile attacks in the

region in the past month alone.

Sitentu said that the unit had learnt of only one recent

drowning, though, that of an elderly woman at Sitopogo village in

the western Kavango in November.

Compared to last year, when many crocodile attacks and drownings

happened in the region, Warrant Officer Sitentu said this year had

been remarkably calm so far.
