Residents in the dark about power cuts
By: JANA-MARI SMITHCITY of Windhoek employees failed to pick up the phone yesterday morning, while residents in a number of Windhoek suburbs were experiencing a power outage lasting at least five hours.
A Windhoek West resident said her home was without power from 07h00 until 12h30 on Sunday.
Calling a number in the telephone directory advertised as an all-hours Electricity Power Failures contact centre, the calls went unanswered.
The fire brigade did respond to calls from The Namibian, and confirmed that a number of residents had called to complain about their unsuccessful attempts to contact the electricity department. Parts of Windhoek West, Pionierspark and Rocky Crest were affected by the power cuts.
The fire brigade contacted City of Windhoek electricians via two-way radio, and were told that the problem was being addressed, although the cause was still unclear.
