One con too many ...

By: DENVER ISAACS

FOUR men, who allegedly conned Windhoek residents out of money using of a vacant house in Katutura, on Friday landed themselves a weekend in jail.

They were arrested on Friday night, after being trapped by the Windhoek City Police and a victim who says she recently lost N$600 to them in a confidence trick.
According to the victim, after she put a notice in the media that she was looking for a house to rent or buy, she was approached by the group. They apparently offered her a vacant house situated directly opposite the Katutura branch of Woermann Brock. They even took her on a tour of the house.
The group then apparently requested a N$600 deposit in exchange for the keys to the house. However, when the woman returned to the house with her new set of keys, they did not work, she said, and she was suddenly unable to make contact with the purported owners of the house.
Police said three similar cases involving the same house had been reported to them in the last few weeks.
One of the suspects is apparently related  to the deceased owner of the house, and thus had access to the premises.
The witness who helped the Police apparently placed a second advert looking for a house to rent last week, using a fake name, in collaboration with the Police.
When the suspects emerged, they were identified and arrested.
Police have called on anyone else who may have fallen victim to this group to contact Sergeant Adolf Kaghuyo at (061) 290 2716 or 081 140 2456.
The suspects are due to appear in court today.
