Possible twinning of Swakopmund

SWAKOPMUND - The Swakpomund Town Council at its ordinary council meeting in May this year, approved in principle the town twinning of Swakopmund and Florianopolis in Brazil.

Ambassador of Namibia to Brazil, Hopelong Uushona Iipinge, proposed

the sisterly twinning to the Swakopmund municipality through a

letter in April this year.

Iipinge noted that during one of his visits to Florianopolis,

the capital of the State of Santa Catarina, he was impressed with

the eco-tourism and business development of the city.

 

He said Florianopolis city is special with all of its territory

being on an island of approximately 400 000 inhabitants.

 

Florianopolis has the fourth best human development index and is

known as the capital with the best quality of life in the country,

Iipinge said, adding that tourism is the economic mainstay.

 

He hoped Swakopmund will benefit from such a wealth of

experience in terms of Florianopolis's eco-tourism, conservation

and the overall municipal development.

 

The council thus agreed to contact the Florianopolis municipal

authority.
