Buried alive in pit latrine

RUNDU - Two young men who were digging a hole for a pit latrine were buried alive when the hole collapsed on them.

The men, aged 24 and 20, dug a hole that was about three metres

deep at the Kehemu informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu on

Sunday morning.

A large group of people and Police officers rushed to the scene,

and spent more than three hours trying to dig out the two.

A third man who escaped from the hole, Celestino Brazilio, told

Nampa that the accident happened just as they were about to finish

digging the hole.

He said he was able to escape because the soil only covered him

up to his waist.

One of the deceased had come from Angola to visit his relatives

in Rundu, while the other was a pupil at one of the local

schools.

Their names cannot be revealed, as their next of kin have not

been informed.
