Oshakati braces for more flooding

By: * OSWALD SHIVUTE at OSHAKATI

THE Oshakati Town Council is in the process of relocating squatters who have erected shacks in oshanas to avert a crisis as heavy rain continues in the North.

Council spokesman Loth Nehemia says all potential flood victims are

being registered and will be relocated to Ehenye in Oshakati east

as soon as possible.

He said all warnings against illegal squatting in flood-prone

areas had fallen on deaf ears, especially in the Uupindi informal

settlement in Oshakati West.

When The Namibian visited Uupindi yesterday, residents

complained of not having anywhere else to build their shacks and

cuca shops.

They said the Council shouldn't have waited for a looming flood

before relocating them.
