Mubarak re-elected

CAIRO - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak pledged yesterday to pursue political reforms after sweeping to a fifth term in office in an election widely criticised by his opponents.

"The true victory is the victory for democracy and pluralism,"

Mubarak said his victory in the country's first multi-candidate

presidential election on Wednesday.

Official results announced late on Friday gave Mubarak 88,5 per

cent of the vote.
