No foreign-based players for Warriors
By: CORRY IHUHUATHE Brave Warriors have been dealt a blow, as no foreign-based players will be available for the Cosafa Castle Cup match against Botswana on April 16 in Windhoek.
Warriors coach Max Johnson yesterday revealed that most of the
players that he wanted for the clash were declared unavailable by
their clubs and will thus not make the trip to Namibia to play in
the annual regional competition.
Johnson told The Namibian Sport that Santos duo Ricardo Mannetti
and Robert Nauseb, who play in South Africa, will not be available
due to club commitments.
Another key player is Moroka Swallows defender Mohammed Ouseb,
who has also been ruled out, while from Germany, Collin Benjamin,
Geoffrey Roman and Dumisa Jantze will also not head home.
Ouseb, Mannetti and Nauseb will be expected to play in the Absa
Cup semi-final matches on the same weekend.
Santos will play against Bush Bucks on the same day the Warriors
are taking on the Zebras, while Ouseb is expected to help Swallows
in their match against Wits University on Sunday, April 17.
Benjamin, who plays for Hamburg, will do duty for his Bundesliga
side on the same weekend, while Jantze and Roman also have club
commitments.
Johnson said they have not heard from Oliver Risser, who plays
for Borrusia Dortmund in Germany.
He said although the foreign-based players will be missed, the
local players have demonstrated that they are capable of doing the
job and he firmly believes that they will stand tall against their
opponents.
