SMS responses on issues of the day

Please take note * OUR leaders must not ignore what we are talking about on this page - we want to see changes. I know they read The Namibian - Kambosha

* I WANT the State President to very seriously look into the matter

of the poor disadvantaged Namibians. Why is the price of bread,

milk and butter increasing daily? These products should be

affordable to every poor Namibian. Also water and electricity have

become unaffordable. - Jatono Debating Diescho

* THANKS Diescho. I've seen it coming. I'll now prepare to

emmigrate somewhere else, even if I have to work on a sugar

plantations in the Americas with my four degrees. At least me and

my family will be safe.

* IS our political leadership not realising the important

message Dr Diescho is trying to bring across. Better act now not to

fail the country.

* PROF Diescho, with due respect, talk is cheap. Standing

outside aloof is very convenient. I advise that you do research

what a Servant Leader is, then you will come back to your country

and contribute and stop criticising. Emulate the example of Frankie

Fredricks. He had the opportunity to live in the UK or the US, but

him being a servant leader he is contributing in many ways to the

socio-economic well being of our nation. Open your eyes and change

Africa. I understand that you hold valuable degrees.

* MR DIESCHO, on your perspective on our decaying society, you

are a true son of our motherland. I think and hope that our leaders

take your views seriously. - Samuel Shafisuna Gowaseb n NAMIBIA a

paradise in decay: I agree fully with Mr Diescho. 17 years of

Independence and incompetence are killing this beautiful country of

ours. Even under the old administration things were better. Swapo

Government: pull up your socks and start managing this country

properly. Stop blaming everything on the whites and a lack of

money. Stop your self enrichment schemes from Government

coffers.

* DIESCHO is correct - Namibia is going to the dogs. Even we the

ordinary citizens are now feeling the pinch. This Government is

inviting a citizens' unrest!! Katiti, Katiti

* THE Walvis Bay Municipality has set a very serious precedent

with this payout issue. Maybe they don't realise it. Because every

CEO can now come in and resign and demand a handshake. Is this

payout inclusive of pension entitlements?

* WHY is the ACC so quiet on the Katiti issue? Isn't this an

opportunity to show us what they stand for? * IF millions are

readily available for the likes of KATITI, what about overtime

payment and the improvement of salaries for health workers?

* KATITI'S case is a non-starter. If the ACC is to investigate,

then they know they should not start with him. But where will they

really start? Air Namibia, SCC, AgriBank, Roads Authority, City of

Windhoek? Riddles of the dead! Ramatex

* HOW many people will be on the street if Ramatex closes? I

thought our livelihoods were improving, but from the look of things

Ramatex will close, further exacerbating unemployment.

* SORRY it's already too late, just let Ramatex go. The

Government ignored us when we warned them about the company

packingup. Why are they trying to stop the shipment of the last

machinery? Most of the machinery is already gone.

* WHY is Ramatex constantly holding the Goverment hostage with

imminent closure? Our youth

* THE state of violence, corruption, and lack of values and

morals within our Namibian society reflects unfortunately how we,

the parents and community, have cultured our children. We have

successfully fostered and nurtured the current state of culture

within our society for a period of time. We should look critically

at what we do, how and why we do it what we do in order to redress

the situation.

* IT'S impossible for Namibian parents to discipline their

children because the Government has taken that right away from them

by giving children too many rights.

* HOW do the President and his Ministers expect school pupils to

behave? It's them who gave the kids rights. Why are you crying?

Even us as parents, talking to your own child is impossible - they

tell you about Woman and Child Abuse. The Government must correct

the situation, because it has spoiled discipline among our kids.

God will punish you one day - for it's in the Bible that kids

should honour their parents and elders. You legislated the stupid

laws and rights. Sort it out!

* I'M a big rap fan and I feel I should tell it like it is.

Every time young people get killed, rap music is blamed - which is

not true - instead of coming up with solutions on how to treat the

problem that's at hand. A person that kills someone already had the

intention of doing it. It doesn't matter old or young, so stop

blaming a certain genre of music and deal with the problems our

youth are displaying.

* MY personal view on the gangsterism at schools is that

correctional facilities like reformatories should be set up for the

youngsters.

* I WAS very touched emotionally by the NBC programme 'Zula 2

survive' about street kids in Namibia. It is very clear that these

vulnerable children are suffering, yet the Government is wasting

money on useless things like the PS of Health (Kalumbi Shangula)

travelling in business class, instead of doing something for these

kids. Dr (Libertina) Amathila (Deputy Prime Minister), may be you

must look at this issue, because it seems you are the only one who

has feelings amongst our leaders. I was touched by the child who

said he wanted to become a person if he can get decent

clothing.

* SERIOUSLY, nodding at the Okalunga Primary School (in northern

Namibia) is not a new or a strange phenomenon The Director should

think about Omumbwenge before jumping to conclusions. The person

responsible for this in that vicinity is a witchdoctor or a

supernatural person. Let the people talk. - Nacky Nacky

* THE practice of squatting at Unam hostels is rampant. I advise

those charged with administration to change the locks to rooms and

check resident's statements before assigning rooms to anyone. -

Hamata F

* I THINK it's better for the Grade 12 failures go back

full-time to school to repeat, especially those in the age range of

16-19, because they are too young to stay at home. Health n YOU are

putting women at a risk. Men will think as long as they are

circumcised, they will not get infected. You were not supposed to

publicise the report on circumcision reducing HIV-AIDS infections.

It's like encouraging men to get circumcised and have unprotected

sex.

* WHY don't the complaining State doctors try to earn bigger

salaries by initiating an efficient management system at our State

hospitals - after all, is that not YOUR workplace? May be have a

look at the quality of service the state veterinary clinics provide

compared to the state hospitals.

* PLEASE let us understand that medical doctors in charge of

health institutions are not trained as managers. In future these

positions must be given to qualified managers. Also salaries for

State doctors must be improved in order to avoid brain drain and

professional apathy.

* MINISTER Kamwi should visit the Katutura TB hospital and

listen to the patients' complaints. It's terrible! What they're

experiencing is inhuman. Those nurses are paid for sleeping.

Circumcision and HIV-AIDS

* CIRCUMCISION or not, unprotected sex is equal to condemning

yourself to HIV-AIDS. There is no proof that the guys tested had

sex with HIV-positive women. Please, let's discourage HIV and not

compliment it.

* UUYUNI wa Kamati's letter on circumcision and HIV is well

reasoned and correct, but can we at least encourage those who

practice it to continue and we can perhaps save a few lives.

* HOW can the health fraternity sit and watch such a misleading

campaign repeatedly aired on national TV? Male circumcision is

healthy and hygienic - Yes. Does it PREVENT HIV? NO! The campaign

has badly damaged the fight against HIV-AIDS, as it discourages

condom use. Simply because "he" is circumcised? No matter how

minimal the risk, it's still UNPROTECTED SEX! It's been hard

educating people and now here comes a doctor with a "brilliant

discovery".

Brave Warriors and the NFA

* WHY was Ronnie Kanalelo, the caretaker coach, serving as the

substitute goalie in Botswana? What message does this send to the

talented goalies we have in the country? During the recent sports

awards, Oshakati City received no prize. And why is the team not

represented in the national team? Why did the NFA suddenly cancel

the award of the Most Improved Team? - Appolos Shimakeleni, Whk n

POOR Brave Warriors, they were playing like a bunch of newly

hatched chicks. I hope the coach will get well soon before the

Ethiopia game, because right now we are dead and buried.

* NFA, you are very disorganised - our playing kit is Puma, but

our goalie jersey is Adidas and so are the coaches' jackets. NFA

must seriously look into this matter. How can we expect to win in

such chaos.

* HALLO there NFA! How can you explain Kanalelo's Adidas gear he

wore on the bench during the Brave Warriors' national duty against

Botswana this weekend. I thought Puma is our sponsor? - Vaino

Hangula

* I WAS disappointed and very angry angry on Saturday watching

the game between the Brave Warriors and Botswana. But on Sunday

when we engaged Lesotho I could not contain my tears when the boy

from Opuwo proved that the boys from outlying areas can hold their

mettle against those from town when he scored the first goal.

* PLEASE let's not fool ourselves. The Brave Warriors are no

more. Our boys are playing like primary school kids. No creativity,

no football basics. They are an absolute disgrace. We need a

complete overhaul for the game of football.

* CONGRATULATIONS to the Brave Warriors team even though we had

to be satisfied with third place. But our boys need more speed and

Letu please be serious next time and stop being selfish.

* RONNIE won 3-2, now he is planning to only use local players.

If I'm a foreign based player, I would have taken offence at this

and demand a public apology from Ronnie.

* NBC, please remove your Universal Grooves music programme

producer. We are Africans and not Americans to listen to that

brain-damaging gangster music. As licence payers we demand better -

at least a variety, including African music. - Obinna Swapo

forever?

* THE way Swapo is run sometimes reminds me of 'Animal Farm' of

George Orwell. The similarities are very striking.

* 'LET Swapo rule forever'. No ways. That's a one party state

and it never worked in most African countries. So far after 16

years, you failed to eradicate poverty. Look at the hospitals,

prisons, schools, grade 10 forced drop-outs to mention but a few.

You have developed mafias rather than leaders. Look at the

politically appointed CEOs how they've failed, only enriching

themselves unjustly. - Angry Ndumekutu

* IF Swapo had to rule forever, what would happen to our

country? They fail to manage TransNamib, the health sector and many

others. Now imagine them ruling forever.

* WHY is the Father of the Nation laying claim to one party rule

while we are talking about multi-party democracy or do we not have

democracy in this country? n YES! The Swapo Party should rule party

of this country.

* THERE is no doubt that only the Swapo Party is truly able to

rule Namibia as its leaders, policies, mission and vision are for

the benefit of all Namibians. The ICC issue n PLEASE (Phil) ya

Nangoloh (of the NSHR), don't disturb our peace and leave the old

man (President Nujoma) alone! If you have nothing to do, face the

labour hire and the security companies and many others. People's

rights are being violated just on your doorsteps but you don't see

that. We've national reconciliation here, but appear not to know

it. How many people vanished in Namibia during the colonial

war?

* SWAPO leaders must face the International Criminal Court in

The Hague like Charles Taylor and others. We've lots of relatives

unaccounted for.

* WELL, if the ICC is to prosecute Swapo's president and other

leaders for the so-called dungeons, I have one request to the NSHR,

pleas give me back my uncle killed by the South African army before

Namibia became independent.

General

* WHY should the Karas Govenor be allowed to pay back the

housing allowance? He is also supposed to be charged with fraud and

corruption. What does paying one house for your family with

taxpayers' money and living freely in another on taxpayers' expense

amount to?

* I WANT to advise residents of Kalkrand to be innovative and

use the busy main road passing through the village to create

self-employment by selling traditional crafts, fruit and cooked

foodstuff instead of relying on risky businesses. This will help

them to uplift the living standards at the village. They can visit

places like Otavi or Omuthiya gwiipundi to learn.

* WHY is gambling not being controlled like the sale of alcohol?

Each bar or shebeen here in the north has a gambling machine.

* UNAM hostel residents and students are denied access to their

rooms and as results thousands of them are and will be stranded

with accommodation, as most hostel students arrived on campus

Sunday night and in the early hours of Monday morning from their

long holiday - some of them coming from as far as Zambia, Zimbabwe,

Botswana, Caprivi, Kavango, North and South of the country. The

Ministry of Education has not yet settled all student accounts and

yet Unam management is demanding a ZERO balance receipt at the gate

to get into the hostel. - Shamanga Simasiku!

* THANKS Diescho. I've seen it coming. I'll now prepare to
