I am one of the Namibian people who studied Fashion Design at NIMT, Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology in Arandis. My Question to the Pariament is and the whole forum is: What if we granted a loan or Grant from the Ministry Of Finance and comes up with the Training Centers? i think this will help. lets look at this in details |

Training centres already exist in most of the larger cities within Namibia, but I assume you are asking for free education? Grants from the government has been already given to students who apply for it but you have to proof certain criteria, such as a secondary diploma which you will get if you finish school. But training centres are not the answer to unemployment the answer is animosity. Thousands of students study useless courses like fashion design that has no real application in this country unless you are residing in Italy or France. Students also waste away when they are supposed to study to become a asset to their country. Tell me have you really thought about this when you made your misspelled and vague statement on this forum? ![]() [This article was edited 1 times, at last 14.07.2009 at 08:56.] |

At the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology? Interesting concept. Although I have my difficulties placing fashion design into the same training portfolio as I would place training courses dealing with mining and technology. Perhaps I'm just getting old - then again, when I look at their website, it's pretty much obvious that the "normal" training itinerary of that institute deals more with fitting and turning, boiler making/plating, diesel mechanics, auto mechanics, welding, electrical and instrumentation, plastering and bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plumbing and sheetmetal work. I wonder what odd idea it must be to do a fashion design course alongside diesel mechanics... Flaunting your stuff amidst sweaty blue color workers doing an honest job day in day out, while you wag your little tush around... yepp, weird idea indeed... then again: why not give them *some* sort of free entertainment... hamunyela2 wrote: My Question to the Pariament is and the whole forum is: What if we granted a loan or Grant from the Ministry Of Finance and comes up with the Training Centers? i think this will help. The above quoted website actually gives you a whole bouquet of opportunities to better your studies utilising loans, bursaries and scholarships, so I'm pretty sure you do not talk about "free education" as gecko suggest - after all, no loan is ever "free" (despite other assumptions you're actually supposed to pay it back once you have a job - which is of course also the crux of that idea, as the job won't come bundled with the loan...). The NIMT itself is already subsidised by the Namibian Government, so that's also no real issue - may I ask what you're actually looking for? I honestly doubt that so far any namibian institute so far has sufficient reputation to actually provide you with some sort of fashion design program (that's not to say that this will never change - but I'm conservative enough to suggest that this will not change too much within the next 10 years, which should be a major portion of your adult life during which you should be earning money, so I'd indeed say that this situation is something to worry about for you), and even if that would be so, I doubt that the job market in Namibia has much to offer to you thereafter in that field. So the next question that arises to anyone thinking about granting you some sort of loan for this: what use is that study, if not simply for your own personal entertainment (which we all grant you, don't worry - but we have other more pressing financial issues to attend to aside from your personal "fun project")? Mind you: financing rocket science courses in Namibia would be a similarly odd proposition - just ask yourself: what interest could someone else possibly have in providing you with the necessary resources to do such a training? What kind of effort would be necessary to implement such a training facility and what kind of constraints would that place on other training facilities, as the absolute amount of resources (money, manpower, facilities, logistics etc.) are obviously much more limited in Namibia than say in South Africa, Europe or the US? Breaking it a bit harder to you: why should anyone finance you a training that will leave you jobless in Namibia? Just for the fun of it? I'd say: find yourself something else to play with. |

Young people in our country are taking education for granted! We are given the opportunities and resources but we do not use them to the best of our ability! I am a student at polytechnic of Namibia and everyday i witness my fellow youth throwing their future down the drain! Something should be done all else ..........! |
