What are we paying for if we are paying our TV licence? Is it for viewing rights or is it for the right to own a TV? I, like many of you get NBC via DSTV’s satellite service and not via an antenna but a satellite dish. All the channels we have on DSTV we pay for each month except BTV, surely is used to pay the individual broadcasters for the services. Is it that DSTV does not pay a levy for NBC’s channels, or are we expected to pay double for a Channel we don’t or hardly ever watch?
It is like paying dog tax to a municipality of a three house town. It’s stupid…
I understand it thusly, you buy a TV and pay for a licence the place you bought the TV from pays a Levy for the right to sell TVs, then you pay a fee for installation and a levy is added to that as well and the company who *does* the installation is levied as well. So NBC got payment in this deal four times not to mention the monthly subscription. Which in turn is levied again, this is extortion paying for a service we don’t get or really enjoy. All these taxes go straight to the pockets of corrupt officials at NBC. Don’t get me wrong I do and did pay my licence and I still don’t have receipts as proof that I paid I am being told each time I query this that it will be mailed to me, my mailing address has not changed in 16 years?? I am 7 receipts short.
