Why was I born? the answer is simple. To die and pay taxes. Because there are only two certainties in life and that is death and taxes. icon_rolleyes.gif I am ok with that, but why in the hell am I still paying for that man's desk and petunias? It is ridicules. If I refuse to pay my taxes I go to jail. If I refuse to work I starve. Who's idea was this to give the Former Boss of this country a 42,3m office. I am a business owner myself and we are successful with a tenth of that. What will his function be, will there be a return on this office or is it just a retirement gift? well some gift.

And who made him the Founding Father? What did he do that was so extraordinary? what about Maherero, Witbooi, Von François. They shaped Namibia's history not old Sam. Why should he be so special. He sent people to fight a war under false pretences, and lies. He still has a problem to keep to his promise those plan orphans/grown-ups icon_eek.gif /kids/waiting for the taxpayer to give them everything they need. still has no place to go, many of his voters and fighters are still waiting for those houses and jobs?

No I don't like it, and the worst thing is I don't have a say in the matter. Or do I? banghead.gif

Well there might be some truth in that. The dry lands of Namibia were inhabited since early times by Bushmen, Damara, Nama, and since about the 14th century AD, by immigrating Bantu who came with the Bantu expansion. Then Namibia was not really know as anything really. The first Europeans to disembark and explore the region were the Portuguese navigators Diogo Cão in 1485 and Bartolomeu Dias in 1486, still the region was not claimed by the Portuguese crown. However, like most of Sub-Saharan Africa, Namibia was not extensively explored by Europeans until the 19th century. Namibia became a German colony and was known as German South-West Africa (Deutsch-Südwestafrika)the first documented name – apart from Walvis Bay, which was under British control. From 1904 to 1907, the Herero and the Nama took up arms against the Germans and in the subsequent Herero and Nama genocide, 10,000 Nama (half the population) and 25,000 to 100,000 (possibly 65,000) Herero (three quarters of the population) were killed. South Africa occupied the colony during World War I and administered it as a League of Nations mandate territory. Following the League's supersession by the United Nations in 1946, South Africa refused to surrender its earlier mandate to be replaced by a United Nations Trusteeship agreement, requiring closer international monitoring of the territory's administration. Although the South African government wanted to incorporate 'South-West Africa' into its territory, it never officially did so, although it was administered as the de facto 'fifth province'. In 1966, the South-West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) military wing, People's Liberation Army of Namibia, a guerrilla group launched a war of independence, but it was not until 1988 that South Africa agreed to end its administration of South-West Africa, in accordance with a United Nations peace plan for the entire region. Independence came in 1990, and Walvis Bay was ceded to Namibia in 1994 upon the end of Apartheid in South Africa. So since our ex-kahoena Honourable Mister his excellent Dude Uncle Sam incorporated the Namib desert in to the country’s name he actually did Find Namibia? If we look at the common mindset of many a financial advisers who would argue?

icon_mad.gif I totally agree, its bad enough as it is in our country, we are being milked thousands, millions of dollars in taxes just so that our "founding president" can have an office space, y doesnt he use the old state house? Imagine they buid the new state house with our millions in taxes and yet they want to build uncle Sam an office worth millions, yet we are in need of more schools especially in the remote areas, better yet, some schools need massive renovations amounting to millions of dollars. I think the GRN should look into this before making any conclusions and they better move fast cos than they might see no-one queueing up for elections. We are so tired of being milked to enrich the richer and the well-off, Democracy my foot banghead.gif . It ridiculous!!!!

Have any of you seen the old state house? do yourself a favour and do a slow drive by and look at the roof under the old Jakaranda Tree. Now if the roof looks like that then I am sure that no maintenance has been done on that house for 19 years. The Tiles in the foyer are all cracked and or removed. The walls around the light switches are biological weapons, icon_eek.gif who are we kidding. That building is not fit for the homeless. It is lapidated white elephant that is only used by the police to give trainees patrol training, A joke of the passing two decades on the behalf of our SWAPO Government. We as the public should demand answers and action, I for one will not be lied to and be made a ass of.

In Okahandja there is a Militaria Museum that has been existing for the last 4 years and is not open to the public, one could only deduce that the building has been built to evade tax or is kept as a overly expensive weapons silo. Why do our Government try to force a "Ideal" if they cannot keep to their first democratic oath. To serve the country and its people, they do not do that, the Party comes first and then maybe... icon_frown.gif the people. And that is why the mandate of South-Africa was not released. The old government knew what will happen if the administration is given to the SWAPO party. And here we are, banghead.gif Zimbabwe in the making. Communism should not be tolerated hence I believe that SWAPO is a communistic faction.

Renovate it than and give it to the Founding father rather than starting something from scratch, which will even be more costly if i may so so.

I am sorry, but even if they renovate the old states house, to get Pappa Sam to live there will be the project of the century. Imagine if he would have the need to go get a loaf of bread... the whole city will stand still. We all know if most get older they get sinical. And our old, old pressie is on that road. No, no bad idea to let the boss live there. He has the most gracious farm somewhare on the outskirts, and with the most wonderfull communications technology available today, why can't we upgrade his office on the farm?

This is a sad topic to write off shame, I almost feel sorry for the poor bugger. We are talking of him as if we are looking for a retirement home. But the office is not a good idea... what will happen to it when he is not THERE anymore, give it to the next pressie or the orphanage?

Hi, am a newbie here.
Been reading all your comments, and had a good giggle for the humour expressed in most.

Can anyone please resolve this puzzle for me icon_eek.gif : WHY oh WHY on earth is it alright AT ALL for the tax payer to have to fund anything, never mind an office or house for the "founding dada" a.k.a an EX political leader???

Why doesn't he get to draw his pension like everyone else - after their term of employment and move on. icon_rolleyes.gif

Pensions are so low right now, and I am sure he does draw a pension, but that is probably chump change, for him. Pension is not the point, the point is that mr. njoma is still politicaly active and will be till the day he dies. for that he will still need an office to write really bad speaches from and chill away on facebook the whole day. Most old people build puzzles and still say what they want "politically active" the diff. is that they only get a sad excuse for a pension and he gets a multi milion office for his petunias.
