* BISHKEK – Rescuers raced to reach a remote village in Kyrgyzstan yesterday after a strong earthquake killed at least 72 people in a mountainous area near the border with China, officials said.

* BEIJING – China’s official Xinhua News Agency says 30 people are dead after an earthquake struck Tibet. The news agency said yesterday a magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit a county near Tibet’s capital Lhasa.

MULTAN - A suicide bomber killed 18 people and wounded a Pakistani opposition politician yesterday in the latest attack to undersscore the threat posed by Taliban and al Qaeda militants.
