Keetmans woman raped and murdered

LUQMAN CLOETE

POLICE at Keetmanshoop have arrested 30-year-old Mariental resident Erwin Kock after he allegedly raped and strangled to death a 58-year-old woman in her house at Keetmanshoop during the early hours of Friday.

The woman was identified as Rebecca Anna Isaacks.

Charged with murder, rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances, Kock yesterday made a brief appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court before Magistrate Philanda Blockstein-Christiaan.

Blockstein-Christiaan did not ask Kock to plead.

Kock's case was postponed until December 2 for further Police investigation and to allow him to apply for legal aid.

He remains in custody.

The Police reported that Kock allegedly smashed Isaacks's head against a wall following the alleged rape and strangling.

It is further reported that the two were seen drinking together at a local shebeen before the murder.

The Karas Police Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Josephat Abel, said the Police also found suspected stolen goods in Kock's possession when he was arrested on Friday.

Abel said a witness's description of Kock led to his arrest.

According to Abel, Kock was hitch-hiking to Luederitz at the time of his arrest.
