Thursday, May 22, 2008 - Web posted at 11:02:08 GMT Dealer sold steroids to doping whistleblower SAN FRANCISCO - A self-described steroid user and seller said this week that he provided drugs to the track coach whose anonymous tip sparked the largest doping scandal in sports history. |

Angel Guillermo Heredia testified in the trial against Jamaican-born Trevor Graham, who once coached star American sprinters Tim Montgomery and Marion Jones. Both athletes were banned for steroid use in wake of the BALCO scandal. Heredia, who goes by the nickname "Memo," said Graham first came to visit him in his apartment in Laredo, Texas, in 1996. "I told him I could get pretty much anything," Heredia said. "In Mexico it is very easy. If it wasn't available I could get it from other countries." Heredia said that they talked at least 3-4 times a week, even though they did not meet again for a decade. "He wanted to establish a long friendship," Heredia said. "I had access to different labs, I had access to different drugs." Heredia also testified that Graham introduced him to Tim Montgomery over the phone, and that the athlete once known as the world's fastest man visited Heredia in Laredo. Heredia said he took him to Mexico for blood and urine tests and provided performance-enhancing drugs. "Graham said he wanted me to take care of them and give them the best things so they would be undetectable," said Heredia, a Mexican who has received government assistance in obtaining a US work visa for his cooperation in the trial.
