Friday, May 16, 2008 - Web posted at 12:34:45 GMT Namibians go down with Cosmos CORRY IHUHUAFOUR Namibian players who play for Jomo Cosmos in South Africa will see themselves going down the playing ranks after their team was relegated from the Absa Premiership to the National First Division on Wednesday night. |

Black Leopards were responsible for sending Jomo Cosmos into relegation after beating them 2-0 in Orkey, South Africa. The four Namibian players who will now ply their trade in the lower division are Brave Warriors striker Sidney Plaatjies, who came on as a second-half substitute on the night, goalkeeper Abisai Shiningayamwe and youngsters Wycliff Kambonde and Lazarus Kaimbi. Namibian goalkeeper Ephraim Tjihonge, who plays for Black Leopards, is said to have been in outstanding form on the night. The former Black Africa goalkeeper is said to part of Namibian coach Arie Schans's plans for the Brave Warriors. The Leopards, coached by former Blue Waters mentor Shepherd Murape, have to wait until Sunday to see if they will be part of the top-flight league next season. Murape, who was brought in to put stop to the club's poor form earlier this year, is set to leave at the end of the season. SuperSport reports that the Leopards are now 15th with 26 points but will have to beat Chiefs on Sunday to give themselves a chance of overcoming Thanda Royal Zulu: a draw or a loss to Chiefs will see Leopards in a relegation/promotion playoff along with three NFD teams. However, if they beat Chiefs and Thanda Royal Zulu lose to Cosmos on Sunday, Cosmos, with 22 points, have no hope of catching either of the two and their last match will have no bearing on their status as the NFD awaits them. This was their 11th loss this term, and along with 16 draws and two wins this makes them the worst team in the Absa Premiership. Teams on Wednesday were: Cosmos: Phali, Nahayo, Tshilo, Plaatjies (Mhlathe 46'), Macala (Massa 64'), Mahlangu (Moloto 46'), Letsholonyane, Sono, Hadebe, Nhleko, Mabalane Leopards: Tjihonge, Mponda, Montsi, Ramavhale, Lubanzadio, Makgale (Thwala 75'). Netshidzivhe, Maluleke, Ngambi (Hlalele 44'), Shongwe, Sikhwivhilu (Kondwe 63') |
