Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - Web posted at 10:14:19 GMT Namibia's dance sport affiliates to world body THE Namibia Amateur DanceSport Association (NADSA) was chosen to station the head office of the Southern African DanceSport Federation (SADSF) in Windhoek after a recent Annual General Meeting by the umbrealla body in Durban, South Africa. |
|
This, according to its new treasurer, Hannelie Stein of Namibia, who was also elected at the AGM, will help to promote and popularise dance sport not only in Namibia, but also in our neighbouring countries. A statement read that the SADSF envisages producing highly qualified dancers, coaches and adjudicators for the development of dance sport within the Southern African region. The International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) general secretary and chairman of the IDSF Membership Commission, Marco Sietas, hosted a meeting earlier this month in Durban, South Africa. One of the main tasks of the IDSF is to help in the promotion and development of DanceSport around the world in order for the sport to grow properly and also to have new countries as members. Sietas, according to Stein, addressed the assembly by explaining how to incorporate Africa in the DanceSport world scene, how to unify the different DanceSport categories, unification of adjudicator's criteria and education, work of the Membership Commission, IDSF and IOC (International Olympic Committee) and the organisation of dance sport competitions between African countries. The IDSF congratulated Namibia of having been granted official membership as country nr. 87 and highly complimented it on its effective methods and well prepared presentation. The IDSF is the umbrella organisation of dance sport worldwide and covers e.g Ballroom and Latin American dancing, Hip Hop, Modern dancing, Freestyle, Belly Dancing, Rock n Roll and Line Dancing. The SADSF also held its AGM in Durban the day before the meeting by Sietas and the countries that are currently represented on it are South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Namibia. "We are very excited to work with our neighbouring countries," said Hannelie Stein, President of NADSA. "Teaming up with SADSF and engage in a joint venture to strive to develop and maintain a high standard of DanceSport in Southern Africa is an exciting development for our country". These countries are great partners and this agreement exemplifies their dedication, its desire to collaborate with and share NADSA's vision of establishing a skills transference mechanism between participants. This is also to acquire funding and sponsorship for the development, to strive towards DanceSport being included in the Zone 6 Games and All Africa Games and to establish better communication amongst National DanceSport Associations/Federations of each country ABOUT THE ORGANISATIONS NADSA was founded in July 2007. It is a legal organisation and a juristic person affiliated to the Namibian Sports Commission (NSC) and the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC). As NADSA works towards its goal of becoming an accredited sports programme by learning the discipline and hard work required when dancing on competitive level, the first phase of the development plan focuses on education. For more information about NADSA please contact Ute Caspary, Vice President, email: ute@mac.com.na. SADSF was founded in May 2008 and envisages all Southern African countries uniting for the development of Dance Sport in the region.
