Enterprise the solution to youth problems

LUQMAN CLOETE at KARASBURG

PRIME Minister Nahas Angula has urged young people in the Karas Region to start their own enterprises in the fight against poverty.

"Get engaged in entrepreneurship to make poverty history," Angula said at the launch of the Karas Youth Expo at Karasburg last week.

"Being black, you must know that poverty will haunt you," he added.

Young people in the region will showcase their entrepreneurial talent at the second Karas Youth Expo to be held from August 22 to 24 at Luederitz.

Angula said Government planned to reorganise its procurement system to accommodate small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as service providers.

He added that Government would set up a micro-credit bank that would give loans to aspirant and upcoming entrepreneurs.

He called on the business sector to contribute towards the development of an entrepreneurial spirit amongst the youth.

Also speaking at the launch, Luederitz Waterfront Development Company CEO Fluksman Samuehl urged the youth to take a leading role and offer meaningful proposals aimed at addressing the challenges facing young people.

He advised the youth to consider getting involved in cultural tourism, saying that this sector remained untapped in the Karas Region.
