Water supply in the North returns to normal

OSWALD SHIVUTE

THE water supply in the North will be normal from today after repairs to the Ogongo-Oshakati canal, which was damaged and filled with sand during the floods earlier this year.

The repairs necessitated water rationing for the last week.

According to Luther Rukira, NamWater's Senior Manager Water Supply for the Central Region, the canal was damaged at 14 places.

George Diergaardt, Water Supply Manager at Oshakati, told The Namibian that they had employed 132 people from nearby villages to help with the repairs.

"Many of these people have learnt how to work with concrete and they are happy to gain such experience," Diergaardt said.

Diergaardt and Rukira thanked the communities for their patience during the maintenance work.
