Moses Amukoto told The Namibian that he was one of the victims, and that the political intolerance was pitting brother against brother. He said he was confronted in his cuca shop by a brother and a cousin of his, who allegedly insulted him and told him he had brought shame on his family by joining the Rally for Democracy and Progress. The two men allegedly placed a Swapo flag in the shop and shouted that he was a traitor, he said. On Monday, a Swapo supporter allegedly attacked an RDP supporter at Omuthiya and slashed his T-shirt from his body with a knife. The alleged victim has been identified as John Nghifilai. Amukoto said no charges had been laid against the three men, but the incidents were reported to the Police just to have them on record. "You know we are all relatives, and have been best friends with each other. Maybe they are being misled and might be good persons again after the Police warned them. It is why we haven't laid charges against them, to give room for them to realise their mistakes … and realise that everyone has the right to exercise freely his political rights," Amukoto said. Amukoto also told The Namibian that three San women had been chased from their homes at Omuthiya for having attended last weekend's RDP rally at Ongwediva. When approached by The Namibian, Swapo regional coordinator Armas Amukwiyu said he was not aware of the claimed incidents at Omuthiya. The Oshana Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa, also said that the incidents had not been reported to him, but he would investigate the reports. |
