Money stolen at embattled school

OSWALD SHIVUTE

MORE than N$56 000 was stolen during a burglary at the Etalaleko Senior Secondary School in the Omusati Region on Tuesday night.

The Police at Okahao are questioning one of the teachers at the school, principal Lameck Kamunyengo Shilongo told The Namibian.

The school was burgled only hours after parents had staged a demonstration demanding Shilongo's removal.

The parents alleged maladministration on the principal's part, including money that went missing.

However, Shilongo said the protest was politically motivated.

"I think this was a deliberate organised action from inside, a conspiracy plot against me, since I have information that some teachers at my school are collaborating with some Swapo political leaders in the area to get rid of me because I am an RDP member and supporter," Shilongo said.

"They want to have me removed from Okahao, the Ongandjera tribal area in particular and the Omusati Region in general."

The Omusati Police commander, Deputy Commissioner Simion Shindinge, says the Police are investigating the theft.

The money has not been recovered yet, he said.
