SMS Of The Day : Friday

* I THOUGHT the global food crisis was SMS's idea of a very sick joke till I actually got sick today in Pick & Pay Oshikango because of the impossible prices. Now I know why there are worldwide protests because the poor are hungry while the fat cats are eating caviar and lobster instead of exercising fiscal discipline. Please put this in Friday's Namibian as it is the only one I can afford! - Ratandavara 'Steve Biko' Kahere

Food For Thought

* TO the Ministry of Mines and Energy, please divide the country in two parts for fuel supply. The southern part should get fuel from South Africa and the northern part from Angola.

* MANY Namibians confuse politics and work. On May Day at Walvis Bay people gathered and many were wearing Swapo colours. Even the president was waving his fist (Swapo gesture). How do you expect RDP, Nudo, DTA, CoD, RP, Swanu and other parties that were present to feel? Please Mr President, it starts with you. - Simba

Swapo-RDP Standoff

* PLEASE RDP and Swapo stop criticising each other. Criticising is not building the nation it destroys. We are sick and tired. If you have hidden agendas you better sit and talk about it. We want peace in Namibia, not war. And please Swapo and RDP respect each other and talk about the development of the country. What you are showing to the Namibian nation is embarrassing.

* I AM not surprised about what Swapo did on Saturday because they have just shown the true colours they have been showing within Swapo. The incident at Okuryangava is a picture that teaches the Namibian people a lesson to remember as to who is fooling who and who is destroying peace in Namibia. It is true that politics is a dirty game but the dirtier it is played, the more it becomes an eye opener to the public at large.

* THOSE who claim to be Swapo members and criticise Swapo in public are not true members of the party. Swapo members are honest, disciplined and well equipped to protect the territory in the interest of the party.

* TO all those who claim that Swapo is to be blamed for the Okuryangava incident, think again. Don't even claim that you are Swapo supporters and ashamed of what happened. You are not Swapo, we don't defect. RDP provoked us. Stop comparing us to Zimbabwe and Zanu-PF. Get this in your heads, Swapo is here to stay and growing stronger every day. The ballot will speak for itself. - Mwalengwa

* WHAT kind of leaders tell some of the nation not to campaign at places where Swapo was previously strong? First that leader should note that we are a democratic nation and Swapo is not here to stay! It's a shame, we are ruled by idiots! Does that mean blacks are not supposed to stay in former white areas like Hochland Park?

* NO political party can appropriate public land just because it got a majority vote in that area in the last elections. What if other parties start doing the same? By the day I am becoming increasingly embarrassed being a member of Swapo.

* CONGRATULATIONS Cde Mbumba. It is true we are being provoked on a daily basis and our patience is now growing thin. RDP is not the only party in this country and it is the only one making false accusations against Swapo - Andrew

* IT is indeed encouraging and exemplary to see Swapo members coming out and stating their disappointment at the behaviour of fellow comrades. With this attitude you might turn me into a Comrade.

Price Pain

* I CAN'T believe it. The petrol price between two towns differs by almost 10 cents. Is it possible? It is at Omaruru.

* VAT charges on daily commodities might cause food riots. I am encouraging the line ministry to initiate a good strategy that would prevent this from happening. - Eunda

* PETROL prices rise exorbitantly, the MVA Fund employees' ridiculously high salaries rise higher. This is pathetic. ACC: we await a probe into this!

Bouquets And Brickbats

* THANK you Concordia College for hosting the annual Unesco ASPnet camp 2008. It was a huge success. Thanks to all the schools that participated. - Maria Amadhila

* THUMBS up for Mr Ya Kasita for suggesting that food prices be subsided by the Government. There are some leaders who have the nation at heart unlike those who just think of themselves chasing around the RDP instead [of dealing with] national issues. Keep up your love for the nation.

* WE the civil servants in this country would like to thank Dep Minister Ya Kasita and Councillor Namwandi for their caring leadership. Their proposal that civil servants' salaries should be increased in view of soaring food and fuel prices is highly appreciated, whereas in the National Assembly they could not care less. Only Hon Dienda from the opposition deserves the same praise. Remember that the election is just around the corner.

* ALLOW me to lend my support to Mr Henock ya Kasita for his speech on food subsidies. It is true our government must do something before it is too late about food prices.

* WHY didn't The Namibian newspaper team cover the Hansa Cup final at Otjiwarongo? The nation is so eager to read it. Please editor, explain to us. - Sometimes we can't be everywhere at the same time. We are sorry that you are disappointed, but be assured that we do try our best. I was aware of the event and have tried to get hold of photos from the organisers, but to no avail.- Corry Ihuhua, Sports Desk

Deal With It, Please!

* CAN ACC please erect a temporary structure next to the shipwreck and guard it. The Government knows about the gold and silver there. ACC you can start investigations, one piece of gold is apparently already missing!

* CAN the Government provide free paternity tests to the public, as they do with HIV-AIDS, and violence against women and kids will go down. The courts just make men pay maintenance without proof of fatherhood. I am tired of supporting kids who are not mine.

* OUR Government must look at the issue of young people from 26 upwards. They don't know what to do with their lives. Our mother and father is the GRN. Requirements about age and qualifications must stop. Make a change please!

* IN our Air Force there is a huge number of privates who are waiting for courses but we hear nothing. Please help, we are tired of manual work.

* CAN the advertisement for 'STOP TB' be done in at least three languages? I will help those who don't understand English. Thank you.

Education

* I JUST want to inform all student teachers who want to specialise in agriculture to forget about a promotion to be a Head of Department. There are no HODs for agriculture in this country. It means agriculture is not an important subject. To me this subject is very important but to study agriculture is wasting of your time because you will never promoted to HOD.

* WE are concerned about our electricity here at Okashandja Combined School. We want electricity please! Our GRN must do something, there's no long distance from Ondangwa, only 5 km. Our GRN do something about the situation please! We are surrounded by Uukwiyu, Olukonda, Etambo and Olukolo. Those schools already get electricity.

* CAN the leaders in Ohangwena Region tell us why we don't have electricity at Kornelius Combined School and Okahenge No 2 because these two places are just inches from the power lines. - Kondo aka KG

Disconnections

* WE are worried about the MTC network. It's very poor in our area. Outjo can't phone from 19h00. What is the problem? Do something about it or stop talking about coverage all over the country.

* IS the MTC management aware that their network in the Nkurenkuru area has not worked since last week? Please take an urgent action to fix it.

* DEAR Salad //Hoeseb and Siegfried Geiseb of Radio Damara/Nama's //Goa!haob. It's good to talk about world events, but the man who committed incest is from Austria and not Australia. These are two different countries. You might want to double check facts, otherwise unintended misinformation can take place.

Consumed By Service Woes

* NHE I am sick and tired of waiting for my house in Ondangwa town!

* NHE officials, when are we going to receive our houses? What is the delay although we paid our deposits early last year (2007)? * I AM one of the customers NHE promised to finish new houses for last year October.

* WE welcome the new SA bank that is to open its doors in Namibia! We are fed up with the poor service we get from the banks in the field now. Employees behave as if they own the banks. Branch managers are invisible kings/queens! Are the customers not the owners of the money they are counting there? The worst on the list is Omaruru Standard Bank.

* WHY does the Katima FNB branch not have an information section? FNB answer, please.

* I TOO have stood for what seemed an eternity at Standard Bank at Maerua with one teller and a very long queue. The same situation at MultiChoice. A very, very long queue at 16h45, with one teller and numerous complaints from disgruntled people in the line. I believe the bigger companies should be made more aware of service for clients.

General

* THANK you, The Namibian. We southerners are really disappointed by that agreement taken at that land conference in 1991. It has cost our people's norms, values and dignity. When the Hardap regional committee identifies names, the national advisory commission bulldozes all those names and allocates that farm to people from the north, while our people are pleading even up to the president.

* WHERE were Kaaronda and Muheua during the strike at Skorpion? We are the ones who voted them into power and yet they opt to keep quiet.

* CONTRACT workers at Skorpion Mine? I thought this system was abolished long time ago!

* RESPONSE from the so-called noisy tent. Please my friend you are not telling the truth. We are not having a service at the tent every day. We don't have an activity every day either. Please don't use the media for your own agenda. Come and talk to our pastors and leaders, they will help you with this issue.

* CONVICTED robbers and murderers should be sent to jail for a very, very long time, while we are waiting for the death penalty to be reintroduced! This may deter would-be criminals from their evil deeds also until such time that the current GRN can uplift the living standards of all Namibians! What happened to those days when one would rather run away if caught or seen doing wrong - I guess we got too brave after the Independence! - Lite-Rite

* CAN Nored please explain what criteria it uses to select its Board of Directors? Why are all of your board members from the Omusati and Oshana regions? When are you going to include other regions that you also serve? (Ohangwena, Kavango, Caprivi, Oshikoto and parts of Otjozondjupa).

* I TRAVELLED east of Rundu and have learned that the two agricultural projects namely Shitemo and Shankara have failed and turned into pasture for cattle. Save us!

* CITY of Windhoek please explain why you allow clients with outstanding bills to disconnect municipal services? I experienced that ordeal when I purchased a house and could not connect the water because of that outstanding bill.
