Nicholas Vries, an employee of Eagle Night Watch Security, was found dead with a single bullet wound to his head at a house in Ernst Culwait Street at Keetmanshoop. Police Inspector Sylvia Ruhl confirmed the shooting drama that had shocked the town's residents. It is reported that Vries shot his lover, Jacquiline Esterhuise (29), in her right shoulder. According to Ruhl, the bullet penetrated into her chest, causing her instant death. Ruhl said the pair had had an argument before the shooting, but she could not give details what the argument was about. However, The Namibian has established that Esterhuise's proposal that Vries should move out of the room they had been sharing had triggered the argument. Although Esterhuise did not end their relationship, she wanted Vries to move out because it was against her religious principles for an unmarried couple to live together, a relative of Vries told The Namibian. It is reported that Vries left the room after the argument, and upon his return a few minutes later, the neighbours heard gunshots. A secretary at Eagle Night Watch, Priscilla Yon, told The Namibian that Vries, who was off duty on the day of the shooting, had booked out the service pistol under false pretences. "Vries told a colleague from whom he took the pistol that he was booking it out to go on inspection visits, but he did not visit any of the guard posts to conduct inspections," she said. |
