NBC lambasted for no show

OSWALD SHIVUTE at OGONGO

THE Omusati Regional Governor has lashed out at the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation for allegedly refusing to cover news events taking place in his region.

Speaking at the official launch of the HIV-AIDS Awareness Week and the commemoration of the Day of the African Child at Ogongo in the Omusati region on Monday, Governor Sacky Kayone accused NBC of deliberately refusing to cover events in Omusati region and threatened to take serious action against it.

NBC-TV didn't show up at the event on Monday despite promises to do so, according to Kayone.

He told a huge crowd, consisting mainly of school children, that NBC-TV is "deliberately and intentionally" refusing to cover events in his region.

"This is not the first time, it happened many, many times and we are now really worried and concerned about this kind of attitudes and behaviour of our NBC-TV," Kayone said.

He, however, praised NBC Radio announcers, who were present, for always answering the call of duty.

He said he contacted NBC Oshakati TV offices twice on the day, requesting them to come and cover the Ogongo event, and they promised that they would come.

"When I realised that they are not here before we started, I again contacted them, and I was told that they are on the way."

"I want to register our serious disappointment and dismay in this regard.

This is a very important event at Ogongo today, an event on HIV-AIDS, a killer disease, and this is a sign that NBC TV does not want to fight this serious epidemic together with the nation," Kayone said warning that he would take up the issue with higher authorities.
