Another cold front on the way

ANOTHER cold front will hit southern Namibia today, the Windhoek Weather Bureau said yesterday.

Weatherman Simon Dirkse said the cold front, which will be accompanied by rain in the south-western parts, will reach the South at around lunchtime.

"We expect very cold conditions in the South by Wednesday [tomorrow] and daytime temperatures will be less than 12 degrees Celsius," said Dirkse.

The cold will reach central Namibia by Thursday.

At the end of last week, a cold front that set in on Thursday evening brought sub-zero temperatures to southern and central Namibia.

Frost was reported around Windhoek and a reader in Eros reported that the taps inside her house were frozen on Friday and Saturday morning.

* Meanwhile, water levels in the country's main dams remain good.

The Von Bach Dam in the Windhoek district currently stands at 93,9 per cent of full capacity, compared to 56 per cent this time last year.

According to the latest NamWater Dam Bulletin, the Swakoppoort Dam stands at 95,3 per cent.

In the South, the Hardap Dam near Mariental is 67,8 per cent full and the Naute Dam near Keetmanshoop is 83,3 per cent full.
