Nam, US to sign mega-$ deal

WINDHOEK - Namibia and the United States plan to sign a Millennium Challenge Compact Agreement in the near future.

In a media statement issued on Friday, US Ambassador to Namibia, Denise Mathieu, said: "The Compact agreement will provide approximately US$300 million over a five-year period for the continued development of Namibia's agricultural, tourism and educational sectors."

Other projects such as educational programmes, defence programmes and building Namibia's capacity to fight money laundering had been tremendously successful over the past year, and would continue to flourish in 2009, she noted.
