NHE and retrenched workers 'ready to deal'

DENVER ISAACS

AN almost two-year long battle between the National Housing Enterprises (NHE) and a group of retrenched employees returned to the labour courts this week.

The four managers and seven workers have remained unswayed in their stance that they were unfairly dismissed in 2006, following a controversial restructuring process.

At the start of the court proceedings in May last year, 19 workers and four managers were named as complainants in the case.

However, last year most of these workers accepted a settlement offer from the company.

The rest are continuing with their demand to be reappointed and for back payments since the date of their dismissals.

The case was postponed again yesterday just prior to NHE CEO Vincent Hailulu taking the stand, after the parties agreed to work on another settlement offer.
