Keetmans Council meeting postponed

LUQMAN CLOETE at KEETMANSHOOP

THE Keetmanshoop Town Council last week indefinitely postponed its first ordinary meeting of the year, The Namibian was informed.

According to a reliable source, councillors were notified at the eleventh hour about the meeting's postponement without being informed of a new date.

"Some of the councillors were only informed at 09h50 about the postponement of the meeting, which was set to start at 10h00 (Thursday)," the source said.

"On top of the late notification, there was no indication of the meeting's rescheduled date and time," the source added.

It is speculated that the unexpected postponement by Mayor Finna Elago was aimed at avoiding a discussion about the resignation of the council's CEO, Jeremia Shangadi, that was on the agenda for the meeting.

Shangadi tendered his 'resignation' on December 7.

Shangadi is still working at the Council after some councillors, including the Mayor and councillors Arnold Losper and Basil Brown, denied knowledge of his resignation letter.

However, the resignation letter resurfaced at an extraordinary council meeting.

Since then the future of the CEO has been shrouded in mystery.

Other issues on the agenda for the cancelled meeting included the pending sale of plots and the council's plans for the new year.

When approached for comment, Elago said an "incomplete agenda" forced the postponement.

She said the minutes of a management committee meeting held earlier in the week were still outstanding.

"Once the typing of the minutes is completed, the meeting will be rescheduled," Elago said.
