LIGHTNING strikes killed five people - including a woman and her two daughters - in the Eenhana district on Thursday, the Namibian Police announced yesterday.

An eight-year-old boy, Frans Paulus, was the first to die after being struck by lighting in the Eenhana district on Thursday.

According to Warrant Officer Timothy Haikonda of the Police's Public Relations and Liaison Division, Paulus was killed at about 16h00 at the village Onekwaya East, after he had sought shelter from rain under a tree.

At about 19h00 on the same day, a 15-year-old boy, Haufiku Johannes Shimwehasho, was killed at Ongumi, another village in the Eenhana district, Haikonda added.

In a third incident, Rosalia Abel (age unknown) and her two daughters, Ndapandula David (6) and Tuufilwa Jonas (1), were killed after being hit by lighting at Omhedi, another village in the Eenhana district, at about 20h00 on Thursday, Haikonda said.

According to the Police, lighting struck Abel and her two children while they were preparing their evening meal.
