NCB announces team for Bermuda

THE Namibia Cricket Board (NCB) announced a team to play Bermuda in a qualifier of the International Cricket Council (ICC) match from September 3 to 6 in Bermuda.

The team departs on Saturday and returns on September 9.

A win will ensure a place in the final in the Intercontinental Cup during November in Dubai.

The team was announced as follows: Deon Kotze; Raymond van Schoor; Sarel Burger; Louis Burger (captain); Gerrie Snyman; JB Burger; Craig Williams; Bjorn Kotze; Tobie Verwey; Kola Burger; Louis Klazinga; Nicolaas Scholtz; Bernard Scholtz and LP van der Westhuizen * The Namibian Under-13 cricket team is currently touring Botswana and is involved in several matches there.

The competition was made possible by a sponsorship from Standard Bank Namibia, which has been supporting cricket for the past three years.

So far, the team has played two matches.

In the first match, Namibia chose to bat first and were 187/5 after their allotted overs with the best contributions from Brendon du Plessis with 48 runs and JJ Smith on 52 runs.

Botswana were all out for 127 and Namibia won the match by 51 runs.

The best bowler for Namibia was Michau du Preez with three wickets for 30 runs.

In their second match, which was played in 20 overs, Namibia again chose to bat first and scored 199/2.

Best contributions for Namibia came from Bredell Wessels 75 and Gerhard Erasmus 69 not out.
