Nam not at volley champs

NAMIBIA is not represented at the Africa Junior Volleyball Championship that started in Tunisia this week.

Efforts by Nampa on Monday to find out why Namibia is not taking part in the championship yielded little results as the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) president, Desidarious Shilunga, who is currently on leave knew nothing of the junior volleyball championship and referred the reporter to the NVF vice-president, External Affairs, Heiko Diehl.

Diehl, however, could not comment on why Namibia is not part of the junior volleyball championship as he is in Cape Town, South Africa and will only be able to comment on the matter today.

The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) chief administrator, Rusten Mogane, when contacted said the Commission had not received any request from the NVF regarding their participation at the junior volleyball championship in Tunisia.

Mogane said the junior volleyball championship was a great opportunity for Namibia as the winner of the championship will represent the continent at the 2009 World Championship in France.

Countries competing are hosts Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Botswana, South Africa, Benin, Cameroon and Nigeria.
