Ali goes for title

THE World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African Welterweight champion, Paulus 'Ali' Nuumbembe, will challenge for the Commonwealth welterweight title later this year.

Local promoter and boxing trainer Nestor Tobias said Nuumbembe would take on Commonwealth welterweight champion Craig Watson in the hope of reclaiming the title he lost in December to the current champion.

Tobias could not disclose the date and venue for the title fight as negotiations are still underway, adding that he does not want the date to clash with the fight of Paulus 'The Hitman' Moses, who is scheduled to challenge for the WBA lightweight title in October.

In June this year, Nuumbembe defeated South African Welcome Ntshingila by unanimous decision to clinch the WBA Pan-African Welterweight title.

In that fight, Nuumbembe was impressive and will be expected to put up a great show against Watson.

Nuumbembe received a Commendation Medal from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for his achievements after winning the Pan-African title.
