City targets 2009 premiership title

THE vice-president of Oshakati City Football Club, Oswald Shivute, has called on his players to be more committed to win the Namibia Premier League (NPL) title in the upcoming football season.

Shivute made the call at a club get-together at Okandjengedhi near Ongwediva on Friday.

Oshakati City FC ended in eighth position in the NPL last season, compared to the second position the club achieved during the 2006/07 season.

"You should be footballers with vision, and always bear in mind that you represent more than half of the Namibian population for being the only team from the far north playing in the NPL," Shivute said.

He said he also wanted to see his players exhibiting good behaviour and strong discipline on the field and when participating in any social event.

The team's players and coaching staff used the same occasion to urge the club's management to occasionally go out of their way and sacrifice the resources available in order to make players happier.

"We need your moral and financial support, so sacrifice available resources in motivating players so as to get more at the end of the league season," one of the coaching staff urged the club's management committee.

Oshakati City FC will start training sessions for the coming football season in the course of this week, while the club's annual general meeting (AGM) to elect new members of the management committee is set to take place in September.
