Monday, August 18, 2008 - Web posted at 10:49:01 AM GMT Beata, Helalia missed the bus BEIJING - Namibia's two marathon runners had mixed feelings about their performances in Beijing yesterday. |
|
Beata Naigambo, who ended 28th out of 82 runners, was happy with her time of two hours, 33 minutes and 29 seconds (2:33.29), but felt she could have done better had they arrived on time at the starting point. Helalia Johannes, on the other hand, was very disappointed with her 40th place (2:35:22), saying they did not have time to warm up or stretch properly before the race. The two were almost denied participation because they were supposed to be at the starting point 30 minutes before the race, but arrived with six minutes to go, and only after pleading with the official in charge, were allowed to run. The two related to Nampa after the race how, when they finally arrived at the starting point and after having dressed in the car, Johannes was so confused she put her time-chip on incorrectly and had to be assisted by an official to put it right. They also said the departure schedule of the bus to the starting point was not communicated to them, and had they known this, they would have made sure to be there on time. They missed the bus by three minutes. Nampa |
