300 can see again

OSWALD SHIVUTE

THREE hundred elderly people from the Oshana and Omusati regions regained their sight after undergoing cataract operations during the annual Eye Campaign at the Oshakati State Hospital last week.

The campaign started in 1996.

The operations were performed by Dr Helen Ndume, assisted by Dr Michael Colvard (USA), Dr Peter Larzen (USA), Dr Immanuel Zhou and Dr Anastase Mvuvanenza, both from Zimbabwe but working for the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

Dr Ndume said the team operated on 202 patients at Katima Mulilo in the Caprivi Region recently.

Two of the Oshakati patients, Justina Iikali from Eenhala village and Elia Xhoseb from the Tsintsabis area, thanked God for sending them to the doctors to restore their sight.

"I was blind but now I can see again, it's wonderful," said Xhoseb.
