Monday, August 18, 2008 - Web posted at 7:39:28 AM GMT Wedding turns into mourning OSWALD SHIVUTEA WEDDING party at Okantaya village in the North turned into a wake when a relative of the bridegroom died and 12 others were injured in a road accident. |
|
They were travelling in a bakkie which overturned on the main road between Oshakati and Okahao on Saturday afternoon. Armas Makana Josef Shuuya (age unknown) died. Many of the seriously injured people were taken to the Oshakati State Hospital and the Ongwediva private hospital. Among the seriously injured people is a teacher at the Oshuuli Combined School, Christina Amunyela. Villagers thanked the Police for their quick response, but said the Oshakati State Hospital sent a very old minibus ambulance, which could not go faster than 20 km/h. There was also no paramedic or medical equipment on board, they said. The ambulance from the Ongwediva Private hospital also arrived late, and the driver told The Namibian that the Police had not informed them of this accident. The shortages of ambulances resulted in many of the seriously injured people being taken to the Oshakati State Hospital in Police bakkies. The Police at Oshakati reported yesterday that another car accident happened between Oshakati and Ongwediva early yesterday morning. One man was killed and one seriously injured. The name of the deceased has not been released yet. |
