Fun day to reward loyal farmworkers

TANJA BAUSE

THE Black Nossob Conservancy held its sixth annual communal day for farmworkers on Wednesday.

The conservancy treated workers to a day of fun, food and drinks to show its gratitude for the hard work and loyalty.

The day is always held on a working day and workers are paid for the day.

A different farm hosts the communal day each year.

This year it was held on Farm Wronin and an estimated 120 people attended.

The day started with a hearty breakfast for all served by the farmers' wives.

This was followed by games such as catapult shooting, airgun shooting and darts.

A braai was next on the agenda and all the workers were once again served by the farmers' wives to a lunch.

After lunch, tug-of-war and pillow fights were the highlights.

The day ended with a prize-giving ceremony where the best male performer received a new bicycle and the winning woman a new sewing machine.

This year the workers were also encouraged to enter their crafts.

Most of the farms belonging to the Black Nossob Conservancy are hunting or guest farms and the workers could sell their crafts and thus earn some extra income.

The Black Nossob Conservancy is the only conservancy in Namibia that hosts such a day for its workers.
