Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - Web posted at 10:02:36 AM GMT SMS of the Day : Wednesday * SOMETIMES we only recognise the magnitude of certain achievements when things are put into perspective. As I watched the Olympics this past weekend I couldn't help but reflect back to Frankie's achievements at various global sporting arenas. Thank you Frankie for giving us our moments of glory ... and please allow us to still call you by that name! |
|
Food For Thought * COUPLES of foreign origin are employed as nurses and pharmacists at State hospitals. Can't any Namibian do that? Are we that stupid? No wonder my GRN forgot 100 study loans which were offered by another country. Keep us poor and hungry. Remember a hungry nation is an angry nation. * MINI ELECTIONS! Give the political parties a month to campaign, a designated number to each party and we vote via SMS for our choice. One SMS per cell number. Fun, no fear! Politics * ALLOW me space in your "telling it like it is". With all due respect to our mighty Swapo Party's leadership, I find it so strange and difficult to believe that Swapo is not afraid or feeling the pinch of the presence of the RDP. If it's true that they are not, why are they so determined to boot out members of the opposition RDP who are said to have occupied strategic positions in Government, parastatals and any other public institution. By doing this injustice to the sons and daughters of this Republic, who happened to differ with them, then the mighty Swapo Party has publicly and openly demonstrated its fear toward RDP. One might ask what is Swapo going to do to the rest of the members of other opposition party also occupying the same positions? - M Nyatty * WORKING and study time wasted by (Oshikoto Governor Penda) Ya Ndakolo visiting schools for non-constructive issues. That's public resources wasted. Be a leader of character. Your action shows how immature you're still are. - Uncle P * SWAPO leaders when are you going to stop insulting other party leaders? You forget already that you were fighting for democracy, and you are insulting those who are putting democracy at work. Remember that Hidipo (Hamutenya) and others are liberation heroes who have equal rights as others. We are tired of your insults, behave. * I THINK it's really a shame on our Government ministers, who served from Independence as ministers and who're entitled to pension bonuses or this N$38 million, to get this money while the country is extremely poor. I think this is my advice to our self-enriching Swapo Party, when it is election time or when headache parties are formed like RDP, is when you see your supporters. My party Swapo, please take this money and do something for our Namibian people who live in informal settlements. Build for them toilets or houses, because they will never afford houses, rather than giving money to those that are rich until their death. * WHAT'S wrong with Jerry Ekandjo and (Oshikoto Governor Penda) ya Ndakolo? How can they say that all RDP members should be suspended from the Government? Does the Namibian Government belong to one party? What about other political parties members like DTA, CoD, NUDO etc? They're the ones who tell people that Namibia's a multiparty democracy, but they contradicting themselves now. It's obvious that they have lost the right direction. - Doubting Saari, Ohangwena) Service Please! * WELWITSCHIA Travel always prides itself on service excellence to its clients. Therefore, we would like to encourage the reader that complained to get in contact with our management, in order to resolve the issue. We like to see all our clients leave with a smile! * TELECOM'S ADSL service is bad. I stayed without it for three weeks. The only thing they did was to charge me pro rata. No rebate for the analogue connection. * MTC credit is mysteriously disappearing from one's phone without any explanation as to what has happened! Beware of the free 100 SMSes per day at the cost of 40 cents! You pay even if you didn't SMS at all! ACC please investigate. * PLEASE Standard Bank improve your personal loans. Why are you taking long to approve, while we are starving? Again you promised us cell banking in August but till now nothing was done. Your personal loan is affordable, the problem is only that you took a month to approve it. Another bank only took one week to approve. Politics in General * THE USA should not dictate what Russia should do. Rather concentrate on their own war they have created. Bouquets and Brickbats * NBC has done it again. Imbili is not the same as Haimbili. * NAMIBIAN boxers are too proud. It does not mean you are winners always. So learn some humility please. * CONGRATS to the female soccer team of Unam for winning the Tisan games! You have made us extremely proud to be your supporters. Keep up the good work. - Rukee General * PLEASE tell us in detail from what amount is the "sitting allowance" increased. * I THINK it's about time people who suffered during the war inside the country did something and formed a committee to represent them because the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs is only representing those who were in exile. Why are these people also not being compensated, it's unfair because everybody suffered. It's not only a certain group. - Amelia * I RECENTLY read an article of a low-ranked soldier who is 51 years old. Could this man really be effective if called on to fight in battle? Men of that age should have been given a pension 10 years ago and replaced with young medically fit men looking to make a career in the army. * FREE trade in SADC must be free. Countries must be aware of RSA dominance. Equity in gain may mean inequity in opportunity and assistance. * WHY do we have no visible production or expiry dates on eggs, flour etc? It has to be brought to shop attendants' and managers' attention that whole batches of butter are so rancid that they are covered in mould. - H Hrywniak Big Bother * CAN we please, please ignore 'Big Brother Africa' this time around? This drivel has no place in a decent newspaper. * PLEASE NBC screen BBA3 as from this coming Sunday or we will be forced to buy DStv and thanks to The Namibian newspaper for always updating us. - Concerned Citizen Price Pain * IMAGINE, we have to fork out N$7.50 for a taxi fare in Rundu like in Windhoek! Please Nabta! * What's the cause of the cement price? Don't we import enough or at all from Brazil and SA anymore? * ELECTRICITY tariffs have increased, we have prepared ourselves for that increase by buying more units. But it seems as if someone, somewhere has tampered with the meters because the rate at which our electricity gets used up doesn't make sense. We used to buy units for N$400 which used to run for a whole month, now we buy for N$600 but by the middle of the month it has run out. Does this make sense? City of Windhoek please explain your new tariffs. Education * WHY is it only job seekers who studied abroad who need to be settled with jobs, how about the ones that studied inside the country and still don't have jobs? * THE Ministry of Education should stop allowing teachers who are currently employed at a school to transfer to another school mid- year. They should have to wait until the year is finished. When they leave mid-year it takes two weeks to a month or more to replace them and the learners just suffer without a teacher. These teachers transfer to escape the problems they are having at their current school but quality of teacher is that? Do you really want to give a post to someone, that when the going gets tough, they pack their bags and start running away? I understand people get sick or pass away but there are many unemployed qualified teachers to replace them,so people stop thinking of excuses. I'm currently employed and we have lost enough teachers due to transfers mid-year. * ONGWEDIVA College must stop nepotism. People who meet requirements are on the street. We want see some improvements this year. * WHAT? I fail to understand how the Ministry of Education can possibly forget free bursaries, not one but a hundred, it just shows how little attention is paid to the educational problems of my country. It really breaks my heart that some of us like myself and my brother have to bury our dreams under the mud of financial constraints while the people who are supposed to make it possible for us to get education, in order for us to be able to develop our country, just sit back in their chairs and forget! It's really heartbreaking. - Fransiska * I NEED one of those 100 scholarships offered by SA. I have 32 points with good grades in maths and science. Been applying for bursaries since 2001 without success. * OTJIWARONGO Regional Office of Education finance division, what is going on there? Please do something. Why must we wait years for our back pay and some of us still have not received our transport allowance. Next time we mention names of the officers who is causing these delays. Please do something. Health Matters * WHY is Outjo clinic situated inside the new hospital building in town if the people using it are living far away in the location? Is the aim of PHC not to bring healthcare closer to the community? - Concerned patient * I'M a resident in Grootfontein. I used to collect my medication monthly at our State hospital. I noticed a lot of foreign doctors working in that hospital. First they don't care about our wellbeing as patients and the poor nurses are working in fear of them, the way those doctors are talking to nurses. In And From The Regions * MANAGEMENT of Mariental hospital come out of your offices and listen to the nurses' and cleaners' complaints. * OTJIWARONGO is growing by day and one can see the development of the town. My concern is why is there no KFC branch there cause it's difficult for us to get it. We also long for KFC. Please consider the request. - Axaku. * PLEASE can the road authority help us to level the gravel road which go to Omuntele, before our car gets old. - Motorist Sporting * THE NFA and NPL, is a joke! ACC must investigate. First Civics and Pirates didn't receive their full amount, they don't have a date for the Premier League kick-off, they don't have a date when the players' transfers are going to end. It is because of them that our football is not going forward! * ACC why are you taking too long to resolve the outstanding qualification issue of NFA SG Barry Rukoro? Labour Issues * MINISTRY of Labour open your eyes and look strictly at what happens in most of the hospitality industry, like restaurants and tour companies. Workers are getting paid peanuts. * WHAT is wrong with N$100 000 a month for CEO of the Development Bank? People must understand that this man is on a five-year contract job. It is time that the Government must review the remuneration of the Chief Regional Officers, who are on five-year contracts, yet paid a salary of a permanently employed under secretary. That is not really fair. Or are CEOs in the regions permanent staff members? * FORESTRY officials all over the country have been waiting for their overtime since January 2007. Someone must help us please. |
