Baboons halt class

LESSONS ground to a halt at a remote South African school when a troop of baboons crashed through the ceiling of a packed classroom terrorising students, public radio said.

The baboons got into the classroom while 70 children were studying at Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.

One pupil suffered scratches.

Order was restored when police and nature conservation officers used sniffer dogs and teargas to "flush out the invaders".

Although the school adjoins a forest, it was the first time baboons had entered the building, the principal said.
