Early rains bring hope

ABSALOM SHIGWEDHA

THE early start of rains in several parts of the country have given rise to hopes that Namibia will have a good first rainy season.

Between 10 and 22 millimetres were measured in several places around the country over the weekend.

The highest figure of 22 mm was recorded at Hosea Kutako International Airport.

Nkurenkuru in the Kavango Region measured 20 mm, Odillo Kgobetsi of the Windhoek Weather Bureau told The Namibian yesterday.

Grootfontein measured 3,9 mm, Otjiwarongo 2,2 and Mariental 3 mm.

Kgobetsi said that today would be dry but that the clouds should return tomorrow, bringing showers in the northern and central parts.

Another dry spell is expected on Thursday.
