Workers at a top Windhoek hotel to strike

CHRISTOF MALETSKY and WINNIE NDJALO

EMPLOYEES at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort are set to down tools tomorrow after the company and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers' Union failed to reach a wage agreement.

Nafau's General Secretary Kiros Sackarias said on Friday that they had exhausted all other avenues and the workers had voted to go on strike.

The workers are demanding an across-the-board increase of N$150 a month on their basic salaries and N$100 on housing allowances, while the management offered a wage increase of N$100 and N$50 for housing.

The workers want the increase backdated by eight months.

They said they would not allow the company to employ casual workers while they were on strike.
