Police officer shoots dead would-be robber

A POLICE officer in Windhoek is being investigated for murder after an incident early on Saturday where he caught two burglars trying to break into an office at the Ministry of Labour.

The suspects apparently started to run away when the officer yelled warnings at them, and he fired an unspecified number of warning shots into the air.

One of the bullets apparently hit a burglar bar in the roof of the building, ricocheted and struck one of the burglars in the chest.

He died on the scene, and was later identified as 29-year-old Collen Goliath.

The second suspect managed to run away and is still at large.

The two did not manage to steal anything from the ministry offices.

* A quarrel between two people at a kiosk in Windhoek's Shanghai Street ended in the death of a 21-year-old woman on Friday night.

The deceased, Margereth Dube, was stabbed in the neck and died in the Katutura State Hospital.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder.

* Another stabbing death was reported in Windhoek over the weekend.

Agies Tsuseb (28) died on Friday afternoon from a stab wound to the right side of his neck.

The suspect, a 28-year-old man, has been arrested.
