Keetmans hostels water restored

INTERVENTION by Karas Regional Governor Dawid Boois led to the reconnection of water supplies to four school hostels in Keetmanshoop last Friday.

The hostels of the PK De Villiers, JA Nel, Suiderlig and Keetmanshoop Primary schools had been without water since the beginning of the academic year last Wednesday, after the municipality suspended water supply because of non-payment.

The Deputy Director of Education in the Karas Region, Celi Mostert, said the Education Ministry had paid part of the N$172 000 it owed the municipality.

Mostert said the remainder should be paid by tomorrow.

She thanked Governor Boois for mediating between the municipality and the ministry to have the hostels' water supply restored.

She also thanked the municipality for its patience.

The Deputy Director of Education said the ministry had paid this month's water bill in advance to prevent similar problems in the future.
