Katutura streets to get facelift

THE Windhoek Municipality will start resurfacing about 20 streets in Katutura in the next few months.

The City's Public Relations Officer, Liz Sibindi, says the project will cost about N$10 million.

The exact cost will be known once the designs have been finalised.

Sibindi says all the work will be done by small contractors, under the supervision of a project manager, as part of the municipality's commitment to support the local construction industry.

The project manager had already been appointed, she said.

"The project will take just over one year to complete in early 2007.

The selection and tendering process for the construction work is set to start during February 2006," said Sibindi.

The streets that are to be surfaced are mainly those that are steep, whose gravel layer is regularly washed away during the rainy season.
