January rainfall figures well above averages

RAINFALL figures measured between January 1 and 25 show that several parts of Namibia have received above-average rainfall.

Some areas in Windhoek have received three-and-a-half times more than their average rainfall.

Chief Meteorological Technician Jennifer Moeti told The Namibian yesterday that 278,2 mm of rain was measured at the Windhoek Weather Bureau this month.

The average January rainfall at the Weather Bureau is 77,5 mm, and during the whole of January last year, only 67,8 mm was measured there.

This month, 183,7 mm was measured at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, whose average rainfall is 80,3 mm.

Last year January, only 35,1 mm was measured at the airport.

The 160,9 mm of rain measured at Rundu this month was also above the town's average of 146,4 mm.

Grootfontein also recorded an above-average 254,9 mm of rain this month.

The town's average rainfall for January is 142,7 mm and last year it only recorded 118,9 mm.

Above-average rainfall of 117,4 mm was also recorded at Gobabis this month.

The average rainfall for Gobabis in January is 80 mm.

Good rains continued to fall countrywide over the weekend.

Hosea Kutako Airport recorded the highest figure of 71,3 mm yesterday morning.

Outapi in the North was second with 60 mm, while Okongo received 20,06 mm, Bagani in West Caprivi 19,1 mm, Oshikuku in the Omusati Region 5 mm, and Outjo 17,7 mm.

In Windhoek, the Suiderhof suburb received 20 mm and Eros 15,6 mm.
