Nujoma movie not ready

NAMIBIANS will have to wait a bit longer to watch the movie about the life of former president Sam Nujoma, 'Where Others Wavered'.

Only the director's cut is ready at the moment, Nampa has learned.

Directed by American filmmaker Charles Burnett, the film is based on the autobiography of Nujoma, and stars Americans Danny Glover and Carl Lumbly.

The executive producer of the project, Uazuva Kaumbi, told Nampa that Burnett will be in Namibia during the first week of February to show his edited version of the film to political stakeholders.

"The director, editor and composer will be in Namibia in a week's time to show the director's cut," Kaumbi said last week.

Nujoma himself will also have a look at the movie before it is finalised.

To date, more than N$60 million, excluding in-kind sponsorships, have been spent on producing the movie.

Payments were made directly by the Namibian Film Commission.

Film crews went to Cuba and the USA, while filming in Namibia took place in Windhoek, Walvis Bay, the North and north-east.

The production was marred by several work stoppages by South African and Namibian crew because of problems with their payment.

It also created intense political debate over whether Government should be spending its meagre resources on a political film.
