Another week ends in violence, greed

POLICE are investigating a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances after an incident which left a 72-year-old man in hospital with serious injuries, the Police reported yesterday.

Leonardville resident Michiel Voges is reported to have been whipped in the face and on the arms by an unknown man who forced him into his house and ordered him to open his safe on Wednesday.

The suspect took N$2 000 in cash, a bank card and a Walter pistol.

He then ran off.

Voges was rushed to the Aranos Private Hospital for treatment.

The serial number of the pistol stolen from him is 607808.

* Police in Windhoek yesterday reported two cases of housebreaking at the weekend.

In both cases, the robbers made off with more than N$10 000 worth of goods.

About 40 minutes past midnight on Friday, unknown robbers broke in through the roof of the Delhi Mini Market in Otjomuise and stole around N$50 000 in cash.

They managed to get away without being identified.

* At around 05h30 on Saturday, robbers gained entrance to a house in Pionierspark by jumping through a window, and stole goods to the value of N$14 500.

* A Mitsubishi Pajero worth N$350 000 was stolen from the Bischmark Kindergarten in Windhoek on Friday morning.

Police were unable to supply a registration number for the vehicle yesterday.

* Police have arrested the suspected killer of a man found dead on January 2.

Angala Lukas Angala (25) was found dead in his room at Okahao following a fight the previous night.

Police yesterday revealed that he had head injuries, suspected to be from a blow he received during the fight.

Police on Tuesday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the murder.
