Friday, January 27, 2006 - Web posted at 7:12:27 GMT Help With Eating Disorders THANK you so much for your recent article on eating disorders among children/ teenagers in the Youthpaper. |
|
It contained excellent information and I hope that your readers will also realise that all of the 'warning' signs and symptoms of an eating disorder can equally apply to adults! Eating disorders are at a record level in southern Africa - and from what the 'rehab' clinics in South Africa tell us, since apartheid ended, black ethnic groups have been suffering more than ever from problems such as compulsive overeating, obesity, anorexia and bulimia. If you have an eating disorder there IS hope and you don't have to go to see an expensive psychologist or check into rehab. Overeaters Anonymous (OA) exists to help anyone who suffers with being unable to stop eating (compulsive eating), bulimia or anorexia. Our group is a support group. There are groups of OA across the world - but in Africa at the moment they only exist in South Africa and Namibia.) We base our methods of recovery on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. We meet every Monday at the Central Methodist church (corner of Luederitz and Casino Streets) in Windhoek at 6 pm. If you don't live in Windhoek, we will send you some information about OA if you SMS us your name and postal address. If you want to talk with someone about your problem, call 081 298 1387 (English) or 081 127 1681 (Afrikaans). We cannot promise you a 'cure' but you CAN get better if you really want to and are committed to doing what is necessary to recover. We are there to support you! Tina Via e-mail |
